Gus's Training page
Gus came to us with several training issues.  We've been tackling each one and he has been
performing beautifully.  One thing that his owner told us was that he was afraid of umbrella's.
Our goal is to get Gus to the point that he won't spook and run off when he sees an umbrella.
He came a long way in just a few days and even got to the point where he would touch the
umbrella.  Huge success!
UPDATE:  Gus has now graduated our training program!  Yahoo!
Gus's training is going great.  We're now working him under saddle as well.  He was curious about things during our
first ride in the arena, but no spooking.  By starting him with ground work, he is much more confident and relaxed.
He is soft and responsive to my cues.  Next ride we plan to add some tarps and scary things for him to cross.

Gus has advanced so beautifully that he will be going home this Thursday, December 13th.  We'll miss you GusGus!
Another important training issue for Gus is to address his "pulling back" when tied.  We decided to use the
"Blocker Tie Ring" as used by Clinton Anderson to work on this problem.  He's doing much better and it's
becoming difficult to "spook" him enough to move when he is tied!

The key to the Blocker Tie Ring
is that the horse can escape up
to the length of the lead line.  I
use a 25' line so he can back up
if he's afraid.  Clearly, here Gus
is being very cooperative and not
afraid.
