Sangria's Training Page
Sangria has graduated from the round pen to the arena. She's doing beautifully and she's
giving me that Rocky Mountain gait. She is smooth to ride and just needs a little more work
to learn to work off of leg pressure.
Sangria is a 3 year old Rocky Mountain filly. Our plan is to get her started so that her
owner can finish her off as a wonderful trail horse. To read more about Rocky Mountain
horses, please click here.
If you are looking for an excellent mount for trail rides, please consider the Rocky Mountain
Horses. These horses are best known for their gentle temperament and comfortable gait.
They are very smooth and sure footed. If you're looking for an exceptional trail horse,

Sangria has settled in nicely and
has begun her training. We
know that she has been
saddled, but we weren't sure
how many times or how she
would accept the pad, saddle
and cinch. We also know that
she hasn't accepted a bit yet.
These first training sessions
went great! She will stand for
us, untied, in the round pen
while we saddle and cinch her.
We also introduced the bit, very
slowly, and the bridle. Once we
got her to accept the bit, it didn't
take much to get her to accept
the bridle. Then we fed her with
her bit and bridle on to give her
time to get used to the feel. We
want her to be comfortable in
her tack while she's just left
alone to eat, drink and just be a
horse! These early training
sessions went beautifully and
Sangria is relaxed and
cooperative.

Sangria's training is going very well. We now have her lunging in the round pen and
have attached "buoys" to her saddle to get her used to something touching her sides
as she moves. This tool helps us prepare her for the feel of a rider's leg moving
around and touching her. Her reaction was pretty typical. A little bit of kick and buck.
This is all done to prepare her for her first ride. If she won't accept the buoys without
bucking, she certainly will not accept her rider's leg!
Sangria's first ride! She did great. She accepted the weight of her rider and didn't move off. Next step will be to
add the saddle. We've been using Clinton Anderson's training techniques and she's responding beautifully!
UPDATE: Sangria is now riding under saddle and doing great! She is one of our favorites and loves attention.
UPDATE: Sangria has graduated
from our training program and is back
home with her owner. She was a
pleasure to train and she is truly
missed here at the stable!
