Our horse training program has brought us many different breeds to work with and training issues to address.
We have had the pleasure of training such breeds as:
We are fortunate to have had such a diverse group of horses to train. It has challenged us to become better trainers and learn more about breed specific issues.
For example, the training methods we would use with a Quarter Horse are quite different than the ones we would apply to an Arabian.
We look at all the horses in our training program as individuals and apply our basic techniques to all but "tweak" them a bit when working with different breeds of horses.
"Sangria" was a 3 year old, Rocky Mountain filly who came to us with little training. She had been saddled a few times, but that was about all. Her owner wanted her to be trained to be a safe trail riding horse.
After only 30 days, Sangria graduated and went home as a respectful, safe, well trained trail horse.
"Lily" AKA "Blue Lilly" was a 9 year old Missouri Fox Trotter who came to our training program because she was pushy, disrespectful, stiff, inpatient, buddy sour and spooky. She had very similiar challenges as those of her pasture mate "Lady".
Her owner, Carol, wanted her to calm down, learn some manners and be a little more flexible through her body.

6/15/09: Lily has completed her training and is now home with her owner Carol.
Carol enrolled her two grandchildren in our summer horseback riding camp and they had the opportunity to work with her all week.
Everyone did a great job! Lily is now a safe trail riding horse for her family to enjoy.
6/1/09: Lily is riding nicely in the arena and her owner, Carol, plans on starting to ride her next week. After a little more arena work, we plan on hitting the trails!
5/24/09: Lily has overcome many of her spooking issues. She has now graduated to being ridden in our arena. She is soft and flexing nicely. She is responsive to leg pressure and is a much calmer horse to ride. Our goal is to start working her on trails to see how she responds to common "spooky" things she'll encounter while on a trail ride.
"Mac" was a 3 year old paint gelding who entered our training program to become a safe riding horse for his family.
His owners wanted to make sure that he would be kid safe and be a calm trail riding horse.
He had some training previously, but needed more work to become a safe family horse.

Mac's owners brought us another one of their horses to train. His name was "Tater" and he is a 5 year old Thoroughbred, QH Paint.
Tater had been turned out to pasture for a while and needed to get back in shape.
He was an experienced trail horse who just needed some saddle time to get muscled up again.
He also was a little pushy.
Tater has graduated our training program.
"Trigger" was a 4 year old Tennessee Walker who needed to be desensitized to "spooky" objects.
We started our training sessions in the round pen (as we always do).
We also worked on desensitizing him to "scary" objects.
When working with a young horse, it helps to have another rider on a more experienced horse to teach the younger horse not to be frightened. Trigger did great in the arena and didn't offer any spook.
After our ride in the arena, we headed out on the trails. He was a little nervous, but gaited and cantered the trails without a problem.
Trigger graduated our training program and went home a calm, safe riding horse.

"Gus" was a 1/2 Arab gelding who graduated from our training program. His owner rode him in endurance trail rides. He had exhibited some "spooking" issues on trails and had a tendency to "pull back" when tied.
We addressed his training issues and are happy to say that Gus graduated in a little over 30 days.

"Incognito" was a 5 year old Peruvian Paso gelding with some spooking issues. He didn't like the mounting block nor would he stand still for mounting.
He also showed signs of general spooky behavior on the ground.
"Indy" proved to be quite a challenge. Once we realized that he had back problems and took him to the chiropractor, his training progressed much more smoothly.
It's important during our training sessions to rule out any physical discomfort the horse may be experiencing. In Indy's case, that was a huge part of the problem.
Indy graduated in 90 days and went home to his owners as a calm, quiet trail horse.

"Pepper Shaker's Traveling Lady" was a 15 year old Missouri Fox Trotter who entered our training program because she is pushy, disrespectful, buddy sour, spooky and always in a hurry.
Her owner, Carol, wanted us to improve her manners and help her become a calmer trail riding horse.

UPDATE:
6/15/09: Lady has completed our training program and is now back home with her owner Carol.
Carol enrolled her two grandchildren in our summer riding camp and the kids rode Lady all week. They rode in the arena and out on the trails.
No matter what type of training issues you are having with your horse, we can help. Please contact us for more information.
